Reason:
XR Design and XR Development are becoming the same role very quickly. Engineers are getting access to design tools, while designers are getting access to code. Soon we're all going to be prototypers, and to effectively show designs, prototypes will need to be much higher fidelity AS WELL as accompanying design documentation and thinking.
I'm working with my developer friend, Sid Naik as he has the same feelings from the other direction. Every week we will continue to trade skills, while also keeping constrained to 1 week deadlines.
This project:
This project allows the user to look at any object and ask "what is this" and get a detailed answer. It captures a reference image, identifies the name of the thing, and gives a short brief about it for more information. It will stay pinned in space near that object and you can come back to it later.
The first iteration of "the process":
Monday
We have nearly the same process, which isn't all that surprising considering we've worked together before professionally, but it's worth mentioning this process works across realms of software (web, games, AR applications) and dev cycle types (prototypes, features, systems, products).
Fast storyboard
Tuesday
Was a bust, we had too much life stuff
Wednesday
Wednesday was huge! We got so much done
We got access to the main camera the last second of Friday
Thursday
Again, life gets in the way
Friday
We struggled and struggled getting camera access off of the quest 3 in a usable format. The only example was a sample in the form of a project. There wasn't just a package available, so working with Github really worked out. Learning from the samples primarily was a lot but it worked out really well.
The weekend
We made up the 2 missing days of the week with weekend work! Finishing up the project details, getting videos together, and writing this up!
Final thoughts:
Not sure yet, I guess I'll just keep making stuff until this starts to make sense
